Dear 26-year old self,
You predicted you were not going to make it through your 25th, sane. You began panicking and wondering where life was taking you while carrying a clueless head and a confused heart throughout the journey. Yet here you are marking the beginning of your first year after that crazy first quarter. I’m so proud of you. Proud of you for being such a brave girl you have always considered yourself to be. Proud of you for ditching all of your comfort zones, be it home, work and relationships. Proud of you for believing that each end welcomes another beginning where you can only be better, far better than what and where you have been. You knew that each time you turned into a new direction, life will never be the same again, and that it is totally okay. Good job for having been very positive towards change.
Today, still you are nobody but a hopeful, dreamy, courageous and fearless young woman welcoming the final half of your twenties. Still far from the person you’ve dreamed of becoming. But guess what, every decision you made in the past, brought you closer to your destination – to the person you are meant to be. Trust that the detours and diversions were meant to reach one end. You are heading towards the path you were meant to take.
From this day moving forward, promise me to try harder. Try harder to eliminate nonchalance and apathy on things which matter the most. Beginning today, please try harder to act as you speak. Practice what you preach. Mean every single word. Please try harder to understand specially when it is most difficult to do so. And when you just can’t, please be brave to seek answers and clarifications. Let people know when it seems impossible to comprehend, for you are not supposed and expected to understand everything at once. Try harder to give yourself some credits when credit is due. Be thankful to God, to and for everyone, but do not forget “you”.
Finally, no matter what, please promise me that you will never stop. Do not stop reminding people how much they mean to you. Do not be afraid to show how much you care even when reciprocity is of no assurance. Do not ever get tired helping people out, for you know how it feels when no one hears your cry for help. Do not ever stop picking yourself up from every setback. Do not stop dreaming. Do not stop aiming. Please. Do not limit yourself.
When you predicted you were going to lose your sanity through your 25th… the Universe was preparing for the series of breakthroughs you were destined to experience on your 26th and beyond. Young woman, this is just the beginning. We are just starting. The best is yet to come, you clueless, confused, courageous young woman, you.
Keep that strong faith,
Kris
